MOUNT VERNON — Cathy Levy, the regional coordinator in Ohio for Raising Women\'s Voices, will lead the discussion on the Affordable Health Care Act and its impact on women at a forum sponsored by the Knox County Democratic Women.
The event will be held on Wednesday, May 8 from 7 to 8:30 pm at the Mount Vernon Public Library in the lower level meeting room.
The forum will focus on understanding the new Health Care Law, why women need to care about it and how women can make a difference in its implementation. Among the issues Levy will discuss are an overview of the law changes that include the Medicare Doughnut Hole, the Medicaid Expansion option and new individual and family coverage. She will clarify the important benefits for women in the new insurance exchanges. Because women, in general, direct the health care of their families as well as their own health care, she will speak to the important role of women in accessing the benefits of the new coverage.
Levy is also the executive director of the Ohio Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, a state affiliate of the national Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice. The coalition stresses public education and advocacy and helps to build leaders for reproductive health and justice.
As always, these forums focus on topics of vital interest to the citizens of Knox County. The general public is encouraged to attend this conversation on the new directions of health care at the local, state, and national level. This event information can be found at www.knoxdwc.org or on the Knox County Democratic Women Facebook page.
