MOUNT VERNON — What may be the best party in town will take place on Saturday evening as the Knox County Symphony Association holds its fifth annual spring gala, “Here Comes the Sun: A Musical Celebration.”

The gala will be held at the Mount Vernon Country Club, at 8927 Martinsburg Road. The fun begins at 7 p.m. with music and a complimentary open bar featuring tropical drinks and continues with scrumptious, light Caribbean hors d’oeurvres and entertainment that lasts until 11 p.m.

The evening will showcase performances by local talent. Entertainment will include a string quartet made up of members from the Knox County Symphony, followed by the popular a capella group the Heritage Singers. The talented Harmony Brothers will serenade the crowd throughout the course of the evening, and Sarah Goslee Reed will perform acoustic musical sing-along. Lily Ann McBride will entertain with musical favorites performed on classical harp, and Mary Kepple and Magic McBride will lead participants through some fun and easy dance moves designed for beginners. John Macionis will continue the entertainment with gentle, amplified music featuring oldies, but goodies, and popular Beatles’ tunes.

Another highlight of the evening will be a live auction “conducted” by symphony maestro Dr. Benjamin Locke. The auction, which features items of local interest, helps fund the entertainment and educational mission of the Knox County Symphony.

Individual tickets for the entire evening’s bounty are available by calling Magic McBride at 427-9134 or Sara Lynn Kerr at 392-0597. Dress for the gala is festive casual.
