BLADENSBURG — On May 3, students of East Knox Elementary School will be given a lesson in slimy science when COSI (Center of Science and Industry) brings its traveling science program, “Its Simply Chemistry to East Knox Elementary School Friday, May 3. This innovative, interactive program will stimulate the imaginations of the next generation of scientists and chemists by allowing students to explore chemistry through simple experiments designed to introduce new science principles. Its Simply Chemistry is just one of six outreach traveling programs from COSI.

The day begins with a 45-minute assembly introducing the students to how chemistry affects their everyday lives. COSIs Chemistry Detective will solve the mystery of the missing slime ingredients by identifying acids and bases, determining unknown substances and decoding an invisible message. This fun and educational assembly is followed by hands-on activity sessions during which the students will make their own COSI Super Slime, create endothermic and exothermic reactions and learn to identify unknown substances using chemistry.

This COSI On Wheels program aligns with Ohio Academic Content Standards, compliments the National Science Education Standards and allows students to learn about the fundamentals of chemistry through scientific experimentation.

COSI is a hands-on science center located in Columbus, Ohio. Each year more than 300,000 students take part in COSI On Wheels programs and in the past 30 years, COSI On Wheels has brought hands-on science into the lives of over 7.5 million students across the Midwest.

Parents and all interested others are invited to come to the assembly Friday, May 3, at 9:15 a.m. to 3:25 p.m. in the East Knox Elementary School Gymnasium. For more information contact Nicole Justice at 740-599-7000 ext. 4026.
