MOUNT VERNON — Tony Bellville, a licensed massage therapist, will demonstrate the benefits of massage therapy on the mind and body at a workshop facilitated by NAMI Knox Licking County on April 10. The workshop is free, but preregistration is requested as class size is limited. Call 740-397-3088 to enroll.
Bellville will present a well-rounded approach to the benefits of massage: Massage therapy promotes healthy brain function through applied pressure to the muscles, which stimulates receptors in different areas of the brain and affects the body as a whole. Knowing about the physiological effects of massage makes it possible to better understand the health and fitness benefits of massage. Some instances may exist where nerve (massage) stimulation is not recommended, for example in the case of stroke victims or other injuries, hence it is always best to consult with your doctor first and be sure to keep your massage therapist informed of any medical issues.
The workshop is being held at the NAMI KLCO office, 15 E. Vine St. Participants are asked to arrive by 1:45 p.m.; the clinic will start at 2 p.m., sharp. Light refreshments will be served.
