MOUNT VERNON — Since laughter is the best medicine, “Comedy For a Cure” is bound to tickle your funny bone and bring a smile to your face all to the benefit of cancer research.
Four comedians are scheduled for the Friday, April 12 event, including David McCreary, Dan Swartwout, Mary Miller and Jeff Robinson.
“Our Relay For Life Team is committed to giving back to the community, and we are proud to partner with the American Cancer Society to increase cancer awareness and raise money for fighting this disease in our community through Relay For Life,” said Jennifer Calhoun, event coordinator. “All proceeds from this event will benefit the ACS.”
McCreary will delight the audience with his slight of hand and rapid fire wit. With more than 20 years of experience performing magic and comedy, McCreary is no stranger to the main stage and is expected to keep the audience in stitches while trying to figure out the genius behind his magic. McCreary may be familiar to Ohio residents as he has served as the host of the Ohio Lottery’s Cash Explosion.
Swartwout has been making people laugh in comedy clubs all over the country including the 2003 Boston Comedy Festival, the 2004 NACA Northern Plains Regional Conference and was the winner of the Carnival Cruise Comedy Challenge in Ft. Wayne, Ind.
For more than a quarter of a century, Miller has been finding humor in everyday situations and sharing those stories in her comedy tour that has reached from coast to coast. Whether in a comedy club, a casino or corporate event, Miller is comfortable on the stage and has proven she can stir the crowd with the best of them, including comedy greats like Tim Allen, Howie Mandel, Bill Engvall, Kevin James and many more.
Robinson has a history of making people laugh for the great good. As the organizer of the Delaware County Comics for a Cure, he has set in motion 11 shows that have raised more than $125,000 for the American Cancer Society.
An auction will also take place during the night to help increase the amount raised for the American Cancer Society. Some of the items up for bid include:
•Family Fun Pack for a family of four, which includes overnight stays and waterpark passes to Fort Rapids and Cherry Valley Lodge, bowling at Colonial City Lanes, movie passes to Premier Theaters. Additional outings are expected to be added.
