MOUNT VERNON — The second annual Turkey Trot 5K run/walk to benefit Food For The Hungry, hosted by the Mount Vernon Running Buddies, will take place on Thanksgiving day, Thursday, Nov. 22. The run will begin and end at the entrance of the Chapel on the campus of Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Sign-in starts at 8 a.m. and the race begins at 9 a.m. This free event is designed for runners and walkers of all ages and is open to everyone. The goal is participation. Though there is no charge to participate in the Turkey Trot, Food For The Hungry volunteers will collect non-perishable food items and cash donations that will benefit the food pantries of The Salvation Army and Interchurch Social Services. Friends and family members are encouraged to walk/run in groups. All finishers will receive a “virtual T-shirt” on Facebook.
