MOUNT VERNON — The Heritage Centre Association, along with the Mount Vernon News, is in the planning process for downtown Mount Vernon’s annual Christmas Parade & Walk. Local businesses will have the opportunity to sponsor part of the parade or walk through the annual Christmas Parade Auction on the evening of Thursday, Nov. 1, at Parkside Restaurant, 108 Mount Vernon Ave.

The silent auction and social hour begin at 5:30 p.m., and the live auction of event and parade category sponsorships begins at 6:30 p.m. Auctioneer John Ruckman will be auctioning sponsorships for parade categories such as Best Animal Entry, Auto Entry, Youth Entry, Horse-Drawn Entry and several others. Walk sponsorships include carousel horses, train cars, Santa’s house, Mount Vernon High School Orchestra and many more.

With the theme of “Christmas ’50s Style,” the parade and walk will take a reminiscent look at the holidays. There is a lengthy list of what sponsors receive in return for their support, including their name on an engraved trophy for parade winners and business name in all media promotions regarding the parade and walk. See the full list online at

To R.S.V.P. for the auction, contact the HCA downtown manager Carrie Crouch by Oct. 31 at or by calling (740) 393-1481.

Some other holiday activities downtown include Shop Small Saturday on Nov. 24 with an emphasis on shopping local small businesses for the holidays, the Window Wonderland contest and the Christmas Makers’ Market. Area businesses may also get involved by sponsoring a Christmas street pole banner that will be displayed downtown throughout the holiday season.

To see a full list of all downtown Christmas activities with downloadable parade entry and other forms, go to or call (740) 393-1481 for details.
