HOWARD — District finances were the focus of a special East Knox Board of Education meeting held on Wednesday.

The session was essentially an opportunity for Treasurer Jessi Busenburg, Superintendent Steve Larcomb and veteran board members Warren Edstrom and Christy Keffer to bring newly elected board members Kathy Frere, Don Lemley and Larry Campbell up to speed with regard to the district’s financial status and cost containment measures previously taken, and previously reported in the News.

Of particular interest was the fact that the district has saved more than $400,000 in personnel costs this school year and cut the administrative budget by $76,000. Further staffing cuts, going to the bare minimum state standards, Larcomb said, would mean the district would be out of compliance with federal requirements.
