MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Career Center school board on Thursday issued formal commendations to the adult education staff for a successful accreditation evaluation and reviews of the Adult Basic Literacy Education and Public Safety programs.

Adult education director Jane Marlow said the Council on Occupational Education did a very thorough review of the entire adult education program procedures, administration and curriculum. There were no adverse findings by the evaluators and no recommendations for improvement. At the post-review meeting the lead evaluator told Marlow, “You should be proud.”

Marlow said another set of evaluators was pleased that the ABLE program is serving more adult students than ever through satellite sites such as that in Danville, as well as in the adult education building. Marlow said the English as a Second Language program is partnering with Kenyon College to expand the services it offers to students whose first language is not English.
