DANVILLE — Danville Police Officer Chad Lishness was honored Monday night.

Lishness received the American Police Hall of Fame Law Enforcement Purple Heart Award during a ceremony at the village’s Christmas party at McFadden’s Hot Spot.

“I was real surprised. I didn’t know that if you got hit by a car, you would get something like that. I’m honored,” Lishness said. “I’ve always thought about that day. I guess it’s good to be alive after what happened.”

Lishness was injured May 19 when he was attempting to slow down a vehicle in Millwood that was leading Mount Vernon police officers on a high-speed chase. Lishness had heard the radio traffic about the chase that was heading out U.S. 36 east toward Millwood. He responded to Millwood and had just set the stop sticks in the road and was attempting to safely get behind his car when the driver veered toward him, launching him about 70 feet in the air.
