Councilman Mike Hillier moved to delay final approval so a committee meeting can be held and some specific numbers obtained from the county.
The city expense for prisoners this year has been about $318,154.
Mayor Richard Mavis said the county has indicated it might keep the cost at the current level if the city pays some extra money for the Public Defender’s Office, Emergency Management and the new Emergency Notification System, but has not made a specific proposal to the city.
