MOUNT VERNON — A native of Mount Vernon, Trooper Joshua Stryker, has been named Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper of the Year at the Mount Gilead Post, which is responsible for patrolling Knox County. The selection of the award is in recognition of outstanding service during 2013.

He was chosen by fellow troopers for his leadership ability; professional ethics; courteous treatment of others; enthusiastic work attitude; and cooperation with supervisors, peers and the public.

Trooper Stryker graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 2003 and enlisted in an Army National Guard Maintenance Unit in Newark. He went on to service 18 months in Iraq. He graduated with the 148th Patrol Academy Class in 2007 and was assigned to the Mount Gilead Post. He and his wife, Jessica, live near Fredericktown.
