Customers that frequent the same restaurants often know when something goes awry. This was the case for many patrons who visited Jake’s Steakhouse Restaurant in the past week in Mount Vernon. Customers were surprised to find two charges on their bank account statements that had the same amount that they had purchased at Jake’s, but the secondary charge was from a business on Long Street in Columbus.
Tim DeRodes, partner at Jake’s Steakhouse Corporate, was quick to mention that the instance is definitely not “malicious” and is nothing regarding “hacking” and that these are not “fraudulent charges.” DeRodes said that there “hasn’t been any hacking or nobody has fraudulently done anything.”
“We had our POS (Point of Sale) system serviced, we put a couple new hard drives in it,” said DeRodes.
Michael Lau of MICROS System Inc., Jake’s POS system, said that what happened was not a malicious threat either.
