FREDERICKTOWN — Five individuals — Jim Blanchard, Connie Carpenter, Todd McClay, Patty Miller and Charles Streby — are vying for three seats on the Fredericktown school board. On Wednesday, the community had the opportunity to meet the contestants and hear their thoughts on some of the issues facing the district.
After introducing themselves with a brief biographical sketch, the candidates, in turn, answered questions posed by FHS student Rebecca Haip.
All of the candidates said the desire to give back to the community prompted him or her to run for the school board. Carpenter added that she is interested in the changes in how children are taught today; and Miller said she is committed to public education and wants to have a voice in the Ohio School Boards Association in order to let the legislature know how the local districts feel about unfunded mandates and public tax money going to private, for-profit charter schools.
