MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon City Council voted to keep council and city treasurer salaries at the current rate of pay during Monday night’s meeting.
John Francis, Employee and Community Relations Committee chairman, told council he recommended continuing the salary as the city has a balanced budget but will need to add a full-time enforcement officer.
Council members, as well as council president, earn $8,378 a year. The city treasurer earns $8,888 a year.
The ordinance passed unanimously after the rule requiring three readings was waived.
Council terms are for two years while the treasurer is elected for four years.
Health Commissioner Julie Miller presented the city with a Healthy Community Silver Award through the Ohio Department of Health.
