MOUNT VERNON — The annual Christmas Parade and Walk Auction took place Thursday evening at The Parkside Restaurant & Tavern as local business owners had the chance to sponsor part of either the walk or the parade.
The event raised a total of $7,100, with $5,550 raised during the live auction and $1,550 raised during the silent auction. The Heritage Centre Association of Mount Vernon, along with the Mount Vernon News sponsored the auction, as well as the 2013 Christmas Parade and Walk with the theme “Christmas ... Make it Sparkle!”
Local business owners filled the back room of The Parkside Restaurant & Tavern and were greeted by Heritage Centre Association’s downtown manager, Carrie Crouch, along with Carrie Swingle, who welcomed guests with a smile and urged them to visit the items located at the silent auction table. Twenty-seven items were available to bid on at the silent auction. Guests were then offered hors d’oevres and some time before the live auction began to converse and to catch up.
Once six o’clock arrived, auctioneer John Ruckman wrangled the crowd together as they began the live auction, bidding off sponsors for parade entries.
