MOUNT VERNON — Four businesses were honored as the 2013 Employers of the Year by New Hope Industries at its annual recognition banquet this morning.
Honored for the contract work they have done at NHI were Sanoh America and Ariel Corp.
Honored for their employment of individuals with developmental disabilities were the U.S. Postal Service stations at Centerburg and Howard, and AVI Foodsystems Inc. at Kenyon College.
Ariel and Sanoh have been regular contractors for NHI services over the years and AVI Foodsystems at Kenyon is a strong participant in the Summer Youth Work Experience Program as well as an employer of people with disabilities. The post offices have both regularly employed people with disabilities.
The summer program is a way of helping to teach transitional youth vocational skills and appropriate work behaviors. They do this by taking the clients out to a real work situation, working with regular employees.
