MOUNT VERNON — Nearly 200 supporters of the Christian ministry Care Net Pregnancy Services of Knox County shared a leisurely stroll on a beautiful morning as they gathered Saturday at the organizations’ headquarters for the 2013 Walk for Life. By the time the 2.5-mile walk ended, the annual fund-raising event’s goal of $45,000 had been exceeded.
Abortion is as controversial topic today as it was in 1973 when legalized by the landmark Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision. “Pro Choice” and “Pro Life” advocates see things very differently across a stark and often emotional ideological divide. Care Net officials profess a determination to stand apart from the political fray and provide a safe, nonjudgmental climate for clients faced with the life crisis of unplanned pregnancy.
