MOUNT VERNON — Students in Karol Arnette’s class at the Knox Learning Center remembered the 9/11 terrorist attack in a special way. Colton Hill, Kurt Ball and Matthew Pierce made Rice Krispies treats for the Mount Vernon firefighters. They also made a thank-you card for the department and presented their offerings on Sept. 11.
The students said the gift was in remembrance of all 3,000 lives lost on that day and especially in honor of those firefighters who displayed courage during the attack and its aftermath.
“It was to honor the local fire department for their bravery, courage and safety that they provide to this community,” said Pierce. “This was to honor the men and women who risk their lives every day to save ours.”
Prior to creating the tribute treats and card, the class had studied about 9/11 and watched movies such as “Flight 93” and “102 Minutes That Changed America.”
