MOUNT VERNON — Sheriff Dave Shaffer and administrative assistant to the sheriff’s office Jan Wasiluk addressed a number of items to the Knox County Commissioners in a meeting Thursday morning. Shaffer said the jail population was at 65 inmates, and four federal inmates. He also addressed training at the Buckeye State Sheriff’s Association in Columbus where Shaffer took Lt. Penny Lamp and Sgt. William Shaffer from the sheriff’s office.
“Some of the training went over the new 2014 standards that they’ll have for the jail inspections, changes in the jail standards, I think some of the areas will be mental health care,” said Shaffer. “They also went over the PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act Standards). They are saying we’re going to need to be compliant with those if you have outside contracts, federal contracts and things of that nature.”
