MOUNT VERNON — Outstanding 4-H members, 4-H clubs, volunteers and alumni were recognized at the 2013 Knox County 4-H Awards Reception held Wednesday in the Mount Vernon High School cafeteria.
Following the recitation of pledges, Ohio State University Extension Program Coordinator, 4-H Youth Development Andrea Daubenmier introduced special guests and presented awards with the assistance of OSU Extension Educator Youth Development Larry Hall.
In announcing the winners of the prestigious Danforth “I Dare You” Award, Hall said William Danforth, an author, dared people to try harder, to do their best and to make a difference.
“This year’s winners,” he continued, “certainly fit that bill hands down. These young people are not afraid to get things done. The 2013 Danforth winners are Andy Rieman, 24 Carrot Gold 4-H Club and Amanda Burke, Radiant Farmers 4-H Club.”
Rieman thanked everyone who made his time with 4-H a success and said the biggest plus of being in 4-H was the opportunity to serve on the Junior Fair Board.
