MOUNT VERNON — Residents of group homes and developmental centers from a large part of the state gathered at the Mount Vernon Developmental Center Wednesday for its third annual Fall Festival.
Residents of local group homes, as well as facilities in Youngstown, Gallipolis, Tiffin, Cambridge, Mineral Ridge and West Lafayette were on hand for games, food, music, paddleboat rides on the pond, a petting zoo and other activities.
“We had about 500 people here last year and we expect about the same this year,” said MVDC Resident Care Supervisor Cathy Franks. “Some of the residents of smaller facilities here and in other counties used to be residents here, so it’s also a nice little homecoming.”
Franks said other centers hold similar events and they try to take the local residents to at least one each year.
