MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon City Council will begin to discuss proposed changes to a city ordinance that addresses property maintenance during a committee meeting Monday night.
The codified ordinance, 1305.05, was adopted in 1985 and establishes the Dilapidated Buildings Commission and the parameters the commission can oversee as far as the upkeep of property in the city. The commission, by code, currently includes the safety-service director, the fire chief, administrator of engineering and a representative of the health department.
The ordinance requires every dwelling, and its rooms, to be “weather tight, water tight, vertebrae and insect-infestation proof, shall be capable of affording privacy and shall be kept in good repair.”
