MOUNT VERNON — The YMCA was featured Wednesday as part of the United Way Campaign’s kickoff week. Participants at the event found out what the YMCA has to offer the entire Knox County community, toured the facility and enjoyed a healthy grab-and-go lunch.
Nick Clark, executive director of the YMCA, said he is really excited about what the Y has been able to do and described the improvements that have been made possible, in part, due to United Way funds.
“In 2012,” he said, “the fitness center was moved from the basement to the gym upstairs. We had a gain of about 30 percent more space. We put four windows in across the front of the building to let in some natural light, which has made a great environment for people to get fit in. It’s a more motivating place to come than the basement was.”
