MOUNT VERNON — For the second Mount Vernon City Council meeting in a row, dialogue was exchanged regarding draft pieces of legislation that have not yet been presented at a committee or council meeting.
At the heart of the discussions is Codified Ordinance 1305.5, which addresses building maintenance codes. Members of the Dilapidated Buildings Commissions have spent months working with the ordinance to present legislation that was designed to provide proper authority in the event a violation works its way to the Law Director’s Office. Councilwoman Nancy Vail, who chairs the Planning and Zoning Committee, has also worked with the draft legislation and the original ordinance and has created her own piece of legislation.
Monday’s discussion stemmed between Councilman Mike Hillier and Mayor Richard Mavis following Hillier’s inquiry as to the plan to replace the code enforcement officer.
