MOUNT VERNON — The dead will come to life the afternoon of Sunday, Sept. 8, and they practiced recently (at least a few of them) at Moundview Cemetery.
Susan Karhl led guides and re-enactors through a rehearsal of this year’s cemetery tour.
Visitors will park at The Dairy on Wooster Road and be taken by wagon to the tour starting point at Dan Emmett’s grave.
“We don’t have Emmett on the tour this year,” said Kahrl. “But we felt we should acknowledge the grave of the most famous person buried here.”
At the Emmett grave, visitors will be greeted by David Greer, portraying Gen. Catharinus Buckingham, an important business and political figure in Mount Vernon in the mid-19th century. Buckingham is not buried in Moundview, but is buried in the family plot in Woodlawn Cemetery, Zanesville. Greer will lead visitors to the first tour stop, telling about Buckingham as they go.
