MOUNT VERNON — When it comes to drunk driving cases, the Mount Vernon Municipal Court takes every case seriously, and strives for education and rehabilitation of offenders.
Locally in 2012, there were a total of 358 total OVI charges. According to an online database from the Gannett Group, based on filings that were made with the Supreme Court, in 2012, 82.1 percent of people charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated pleaded guilty to the original charge or were found guilty after trial.
“We are probably just outside of the top 10 percentage wise for conviction percentage on that; there are 167 municipal courts, we’re probably in the top 15 percent,” said Robert Broeren, assistant city law director.
