MOUNT VERNON — Jennifer Farmer and her son, Hans Farmer, a resident of Deal Road, approached the Knox County Commissioners Monday to ask for their support to oppose two new injection disposal wells in the area.
Jennifer Farmer told the commissioners that applications for permits for two disposal well have been filed with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Wednesday is the deadline for public comment on the application.
The permits are sought by Moran Well Service Inc. of Deal Road and will be for wells located on the Moran property, which already operates one disposal well on the site.
Mrs. Farmer said she thinks safety will be an issue because the road is not wide and there is a lot of Amish buggy traffic in the area.
“If you triple the number of wells, the traffic will hurt safety and property values,” she said. “We’ve already noticed truck traffic at the site.”
These wells would raise the number of operating disposal wells in the county to five, the others being located on Rutledge Road in Butler Township and near U.S. 62 south of Danville in Union Township.
