MOUNT VERNON — For the Owl Creek Baptist Church near Utica, Praisestock has been an ongoing event for the past nine years. This weekend 18 different bands will be showcased in Praisestock’s two-day outdoor live Christian music festival on Saturday and Sunday.
Praisestock began nine years ago as a conversation in a Sunday school class, as the class talked about wanting an outside performance. During its first year the festival welcomed six to eight bands and had 300 watts of power. Today, as they’re preparing for this weekend’s festivities they will be welcoming 18 performers, who will perform and speak on a 20-by-26-foot stage with a canopy and have 20,000 watts of power.
Praisestock Downhome begins Saturday at 11 a.m. and goes until 6 p.m., as groups come in and perform bluegrass, gospel, blues and bring good old-fashioned worship music to all who attend.
