MOUNT VERNON — Family Day at the Farmers’ Market was a fun day for kids, with several activities for them to have fun and learn about food and farming at the same time.
Madison Rank, 8, of Ashland, said she was having fun doing all of the activities. Her favorite was making “Marshmallow Minions” at Jauna Burke’s stand, where kids were encouraged to try different vegetables by arranging them in faces or patterns on slices of homemade bread.
Burke said all of the items she was using are locally grown or baked, and she was also teaching kids about eggs, taking a survey on their favorite way to fix eggs and encourage them to think about eating an egg every day.
Burke said the response had been great, as did the people running the other kids’ activities.
