MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon City Council passed several pieces of legislation under emergency passage in order to move forward with some big projects this summer.

Council approved the following legislation as an emergency:

•An application for Fiscal Year 2013 Community Development Block Grant. The application includes the improvement of two bridges in the city. About $375,000 will be sought to replace an old bridge on Katherine Street and another on Sychar Road. Both have had reduced load limits posted and need to be replaced, city Engineer Cameron Keaton explained.
