CENTERBURG — The Red Plague, Centerburg’s FIRST robotics team, won the semi-final round in the regional competition at Xavier University and participated in the final match.
“It was an amazing run for us,” said club advisor Janine Hebenthal. “In the five years we have participated in this program our team has been finalists four times and won twice. That is just unheard of for a small team like ours.”
In addition to making it to the final match, the Red Plague also won the Jack Kamen Imagery Award, which “celebrates attractiveness in engineering and outstanding visual aesthetic integration from the machine to the team appearance.”
The team is gearing up now for participating at the Central Ohio Robotics Initiative invitational in Columbus on June 22 and will also be participating at the Ariel Cruise In on May 28.
“They [Ariel] sponsored us this year,” Hebenthal said, “and have asked us to participate.”
