DELAWARE — A former Knox Community Hospital emergency department doctor has been indicted and arrested following the Aug. 1, 2012, death of a 23-year-old Pataskala woman.
Dr. Ali Salim, of New Albany, was taken into custody just after noon today by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office after Salim was indicted on nine felony counts, including two counts of murder for the deaths of Deanna D. Ballman and her unborn child.
According to Delaware County Sheriff Russell L. Martin, additional charges against Salim include rape, kidnapping, tampering with evidence, abuse of a corpse, felonious assault and corrupting another with drugs.
Salim last worked at KCH on Aug. 1, 2012, and was taken off the rotation while law enforcement investigated the suspicious death. He worked for Hospital Physician Partners out of Florida, which contracts with KCH for emergency department physicians.
Prema Samhat, director of Marketing, Community Relations and Development for KCH, told the News in August, Salim had worked at KCH for about five years.
Samhat declined to comment today regarding the indictment stating Salim was not an employee of the hospital.
