Funds may be used to address roof, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, foundation, window, siding and related home improvement needs. Less expensive home repairs are available as a 100 percent grant while more substantial rehabilitation activities will be provided through a deferred forgivable loan that is 100 percent forgiven over 10 years. A portion of the grant funds will also be used to rehabilitate low- to moderate-income rental units and assist Knox County Habitat for Humanity to build two new homes.

The assistance is available to all eligible households anywhere in Knox County and Mount Vernon, however, priority will be given to specific target neighborhoods. Knox County’s priority neighborhood includes the Columbus Road, South Vernon and Buckeye Addition. Mount Vernon’s target neighborhood is the West End.

Knox County and Mount Vernon are both holding informational meetings on Tuesday, Feb. 5. Knox County residents are encouraged to attend a meeting at 6 p.m. at the South Vernon United Methodist Church, 142 Columbus Road. The meeting for Mount Vernon residents will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Knox Metropolitan Housing Authority, 201A W. High St., Mount Vernon.
