BANGS — A new NiSource/Columbia Gas assembly facility is under way in Bangs to replace the existing one. NiSource is investing $5.5 million to construct the new plant which will feature enhanced technology and a work flow layout that will improve processes, efficiency and productivity.

Doug Flowers, NGD Communications, NiSource/Columbia Gas, said the Bangs facility fabricates a number of materials used in the natural gas pipeline industry, such as measurement and regulation settings, piping assemblies, leak repair devices, standard meter and regulator settings and large stations.

He said it was a straightforward decision to replace the aged facility in Bangs rather than building a new one elsewhere: “We have a great work force at Bangs that is customer driven and delivers a quality product.”

There are currently 11 employees who work in the fabrication facility, and several Columbia Gas of Ohio employees who serve the Mount Vernon area also work from there. An additional three employees will be hired in the new fabrication shop.

While the primary focus is providing fabrication services to the Columbia Gas distribution companies in Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and Massachusetts, Flowers said the Bangs fabrication shop has also assisted other companies with fabricated products when they have been in need.
