GAMBIER — Sometimes things blend very well, like pottery bowls, a soup dinner, and proceeds donated to Food For the Hungry. That blend describes the sixth annual Empty Bowls Dinner and Silent Auction held at Kenyon College Friday night.
Empty Bowls is a project sponsored by the Kenyon College Craft Center, the Kenyon Review and the Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) ceramic instructors and students as a fundraiser to fight hunger in Knox County by auctioning pottery pieces crafted by students, faculty, and community members and donating the proceeds to Food for the Hungry of Knox County.
Paul Linhares teaches ceramics at MVNU and his students donated items they made. Linhares decided to generate more pieces by throwing a number of pieces in his personal studio and then inviting Kenyon and MVNU faculty to his studio to decorate them before they were fired in the kiln.
Erin Ciarimboli organized the Empty Bowls Project at Kenyon and noted, “One hundred percent of the proceeds go to Food For the Hungry.”
