MOUNT VERNON — A unified community came together for the sole purpose of prayer Thursday evening at Public Square. Upwards of 150 people attended the inaugural nonpartisan, non-denominational event which was organized as “A time of unified prayer for our nation and to humble ourselves, repent and seek God’s face.”
Opening the rally was the Rev. Timothy Overly of Covenant Christian Church, who welcomed the crowd that came out to pray for our nation and the upcoming election. “Powerful things happen when God’s people begin to pray in agreement. And that’s what we are here for,” said Overly, who quoted 2 Chronicles 7:14 as the basis for the rally — “If my people, who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear them from heaven, and forgive their sins and heal their land.”
