MOUNT VERNON — The 2012 Mount Vernon Christmas Parade is heading back to a much simpler time. One of bubble lights and Sno-Flock, of Styrofoam ball ornaments with sequins or rhinestones.
This year’s parade theme will be “Christmas Parade — 1950s style,” Mount Vernon News Publisher Kay Culbertson announced Monday.
“We thought the ’50s would be fun to work with this year,” Culbertson said. “When I was little, we used to cut down our own Christmas tree and decorate it with ornaments we made ourselves. I still have decorations from when I was little that we always put on the tree. It should be a fun theme.”
The Christmas Parade and Walk will take place Sunday, Nov. 25, in downtown Mount Vernon. The walk will be from 1 to 5 p.m. with the parade stepping off at 2:30 p.m.
“We want everybody to come downtown for the walk and parade. It’s always fun. I like the idea of having both on the same day. I think people enjoy it,” Culbertson said.
Entrants for the parade should fill out a registration form that will be published in the News. The form can also be picked up at the News office. Entrants are due by Wednesday, Nov. 14, and entrants are asked to include a brief description of their entry that the announcers can read the information to the crowd near Public Square.
Judging for the parade will take place from noon until 1:30 p.m.
