MOUNT VERNON — Reports were received at the News late Wednesday afternoon of an individual walking the streets in downtown Mount Vernon carrying a weapon.
Mount Vernon Police Captain George Hartz told the News that the police department did receive a call and sent officers out to investigate.
The individual was soon found carrying a muzzleloader he had just purchased from BJA’s Guns and Surplus on South Gay Street. Police officers inspected the muzzleloader and found it to be disarmed and not functional.
“He wasn’t doing anything wrong,” said Hartz, who explained there are no regulations against carrying an unloaded weapon on one’s person.
