  • First the snow came down, then it melted and then froze on downtown sidewalks. That didn’t seem to bother Greg Garzieri of Mount Vernon as he walked downtown this morning. A few sidewalks had been cleared by 10 a.m.

  • A two-vehicle accident closed the intersection of Martinsburg and Glen roads for about an hour Wednesday afternoon. Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Matt Them said Felica Rowe, 24, Mount Vernon, was northbound on Martinsburg Road in her silver Jeep and made a left turn into the path of Michael Seese, 51, Bladensburg. Neither driver was injured, but Rowe was charged with failure to yield on a left turn.
  • The 2010 Food for the Hungry campaign will be broadcast live on Saturday from Mount Vernon City Hall. Broadcast hosts will include, from left, Matt Starr, Dave Bevington, Marcy Rinehart, Joe Rinehart, Jenney Murray and Adam Taylor. The broadcast starts at 9 a.m. and will conclude at 5:30 p.m.

Stepping into the role of mayor as current council president, Kintner will serve the remaining one year of Roger Reed’s term as Reed will begin duties as Knox County commissioner on Jan. 1. Council was not able to convene Monday as three of the six council members were absent. Council is scheduled to meet on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

  • There are 80 different Christmas ornaments on display in the Fredericktown Community Park. They are the property of Nora, and now the late John, Parsons. Nora Parsons, a native of Fredericktown, has lives for several years in Texas and returned home to live. The Parsonses added to the collection over several years. They will be on display each evening from 5:30 to 11 p.m. through Dec. 31.
  • The car on its top, at right, was driven by Michael Oliver, 29, Danville, in this crash 1.5 miles north of Danville on Ohio 514 on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Oliver was making a left turn into his drive and collided with Valerie Henderson, 38, Danville. There were only minor injuries and Oliver was charged with failure to yield the right of way on a left turn.

  • Betty Wertz, 82, Mount Vernon, was not injured when her car slammed into this driveway retaining wall Wednesday at 4:14 p.m. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said she was eastbound on Ohio 229, just east of Mount Vernon, when she lost control of her car. She was charged with failure to maintain reasonable control.
  • The East Knox Lions Club recently put some of their fundraising money to good use. A $500 check was presented Monday to the Winter Sanctuary program at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church to help aid in the church’s homeless shelter program. The Winter Sanctuary has been open since Nov. 8 and houses women and children at the Parish House and men in the church basement on an emergency basis.   • Andrew McNeil, 12, a student at Fredericktown Middle School, bagged his first deer, this six-point buck, on the first day of deer-gun season, Nov. 29. He shot the deer while hunting with his uncle, Chuck McNeil, right. He is the son of Don and Jennifer McNeil of Fredericktown.
