Mistakes haunt East Knox in loss to Gilmour

HOWARD — East Knox outgained Gilmour Academy 338 yards to 291, and got 254 yards from workhorse back Dylan Wears, but four fumbles and an interception led to three return touchdowns for the visiting Lancers in their 35-14 nonconference victory.
The Bulldogs (1-3) and Gilmour (3-1) each scored a first-quarter touchdown to earn a 7-7 tie, but the Lancers scored 22 unanswered points in the second (10) and third (12) quarters to build a 29-7 lead. East Knox got one touchdown back in the fourth quarter, but so did Gilmour, who posted the 21-point victory.
Wears ran 40 times for his 254 yards for the Bulldogs, but also fumbled twice. Cody Howard rushed for 73 yards on 15 carries, but completed only 2-of-14 passes for 4 yards. Colton Rebel and Wears had the only catches for East Knox, for 19 and 4 yards, respectively.
Howard also led the defense with five solo tackles and six assisted tackles, and posted 2.5 tackles for loss. Wears had two tackles for loss.
East Knox will host Berne Union, who lost 53-7 to Danville, next Friday at 7 p.m.
