Danville back in win column with blowout

SUGAR GROVE — Danville dominated every aspect of play on Friday night to crush Berne Union, 53-7.
Ridge Durbin competed 16-of-19 passes for 273 yards and four TDs for the Blue Devils (3-1), with six tosses going to A.J. Winings for 111 yards and two scores. Greg Briggs worked in relief at QB, completing two passes for 27 yards and a score.
The defense was also very effective, holding the Rockets (0-4) to minus-13 yards rushing on 31 attempts and 74 yards on 7-of-18 passing. Berne Union managed only five first-downs in the game, and punted six times.
Durbin got things going in the first quarter with a 14-yard TD pass to Zach Wood at the 4:18 mark. Austin Morehouse caught the conversion pass for an 8-0 lead. About three minutes later, Durbin found Briggs for a 27-yard TD toss, and Morehouse caught a second conversion to put Danville up 16-0.
Wth 7:21 to play in the second quarter, Winings hauled in the longest TD pass of the day, a 41-yarder with gave the Blue Devils a 23-0 edge. Wood scored his second touchdown, this time on the ground, with 2:32 to play in the half, and Danville led 29-0.
The onslaught continued unabated in the third quarter. With only 1:35 off the clock, Durbin and Winings connected for a 20-yard touchdown pass, and the Blue Devils were up, 35-0. A later drive in the period ended in Kenton Mickley’s 5-yard touchdown run and a 41-0 advantage.
Briggs took over at quarterback in the fourth quarter, and hit Cal Honabarger for a 14-yard TD pass at the 11:52 mark. Jordan Stimpert scored on a 10-yard run with 1:40 to play to finish the game for the Blue Devils.
Freddie Hart led Danville runners with 43 yards on seven carries, and Durbin rushed six times for 30 yards.
Danville will return home on Friday to host Coshocton at 7 p.m.
