LUCAS — Three first-half touchdowns were more than enough for the Centerburg football team to defeated Lucas in their showdown on Friday, 30-7.
The Trojans (2-0) got two touchdown passes from quarterback Tyler Stoyle, the first of which was thrown in the first quarter. Jeremy Sesma caught a Stoyle pass and went 53 yards, which, with Sterling Armstrong’s kick, left Centerburg ahead, 7-0.
The Trojans launched a pair of scoring drives in the second quarter, the first completed by Joey Valentine’s five-yard run. Stoyle and Blake Bramer hooked up for the conversion pass and a 15-0 lead. The next drive finished with a 7-yard Stoyle pass to Brendan Mapes, and they combined for the conversion to take the lead to 23-0.
The Cubs (0-2) scored their only touchdown late in the half, when Mason Galco punched in from 1-yard out. The score was 23-7 at the half.
Not needing to score again, Centerburg used the clock for the best part of the third and fourth quarters. The Trojans picked up one last score on Sesma’s second TD run of the day, a 2-yarder in the fourth quarter, which closed the scoring.
