Virgil Shipley/News The new traffic lights have been installed at Newark Road and Commerce Drive. Wiring of the lights will take about a week to complete. They will first be on caution for 10 days for drivers to get used to seeing them and then activated, according to Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Mavis.

Joshua Morrison/News A fire broke out Friday afternoon at 5 Kenyon St. in Mount Vernon. Firefighters from Mount Vernon, College-Monroe Township and Fredericktown departments were called to the scene around 4:30 p.m. Friday and were there for approximately 1 1/2 hours. One person was transported by medics to Knox Community Hospital. The fire remains under investigation.
