MOUNT VERNON — Now that the cities and villages which challenged the state’s plan to collect business taxes and distribute the money to the communities (charging a fee for the service) have lost in court, the city has to change elements of its income tax ordinances.

A Finance and Budget Committee meeting will take place Monday at 6:20 p.m. to explain the changes.

At 6:35 p.m. the Parks and Lands Committee will have a 10-minute meeting on Hiawatha Water Park and the Edgewood Road meeting will follow at 6:45 p.m.

Only a few legislative items, in addition to the tax ordinance changes, are on the agenda for Mount Vernon City Council.

•An ordinance changing the city’s address and sign codes. It is on the agenda for first reading.

•A resolution authorizing the Safety-Service director to advertise for bids and enter a contact for the 2018 street resurfacing program.

•A resolution authorizing the auditor to pay some bills remaining from 2017.

Council may also receive a resolution authorizing the city to apply for EPA grant funding to correct erosion problems at a couple sites along the Kokosing River.
