SPARTA — On a night when early fouls would wreak havoc on starting lineups, it took one quick surge for the Highland Fighting Scots to gain an insurmountable lead.
Up by seven as the second half started, Highland’s Chase Carpenter scored or assisted on four straight plays to give his team a double-digit lead it would not relinquish. The Scots held off any thought of an East Knox comeback with a smothering defense in their 59-42 win at home on Friday.
“When you hold a varsity team to under 45, that’s a huge accomplishment,” Highland coach Chris Powell said. “Once we get rolling, with stops on defensive end, it helps on the (offense).”
