MOUNT VERNON — Bitter cold and snow apparently aren’t enough to keep vandals from destroying property.

Parks Superintendent Dave Carpenter reported at the mayor’s weekly press briefing that sometime between Friday evening and Tuesday morning, vandals broke 65 panes out of window in the Community Foundation Pavilion (the old Carpentry Shop) at Ariel-Foundation Park. Carpenter thinks the damage occurred Monday or before, because there were no tracks in the fresh snow.

He said police are investigating the incident and surveillance recordings are being checked to see if anyone can be identified doing the damage. He asks that anyone seeing suspicious activity to report it to the police.

Carpenter said he is in the process of getting estimates to repair the damage.
