MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Engineer’s Office has $38,000 per year to carry out inspections of 328 bridges.

As such, it uses contractors to make the inspections, which are required annually by the Ohio Department of Transportation.

The Knox County Commissioners Thursday approved an $11,990 contract with Burgess and Niple for inspection of 22 county bridges. The inspections will be carried out in the spring, county engineer Cameron Keaton said, and contracts will be signed with two other firms later this year for the remaining inspections, to be carried out in the fall.
