NEWARK — Mount Vernon’s boys basketball team had its three-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday, falling to rival Newark, 56-46.

“We played a really good opponent in a tough environment,” Yellow Jacket head coach Nick Coon said. “Newark has two high-level offensive players in (Jay) Shumate and (Keshawn) Heard that make it difficult to defend. Their defensive pressure and physicality wore on us all game. Our players competed and fought hard all night.”
