MOUNT VERNON — Doris L. Takos, 83 of Mt. Vernon died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017 at OSU Hospital in Columbus.

Born Sept. 19, 1934, in Shelby to Lewis & Elsie (Ebersole) Marshall, she was a Mansfield/Shelby resident until moving to Mt. Vernon in 1982. A graduate of Shelby High School in 1952, Doris then worked at the Shelby Mutual and Shelby Business Firms before retiring from Kmart in 1997.

Doris was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shelby and enjoyed reading her Bible, word puzzles, reading, sewing, going to casinos, yarn crafts, Elvis, and playing the organ.

She is survived by her husband, Vincent Takos, whom she married Oct. 21, 1978; son, Roy (Carol) Dean of Chatfield; daughter, Delores Dean of Fredericktown; step-daughters, Patti (Tom) Scott of Mt. Vernon, Susan Ramey of Bellville, Michelle (Keith) Vipperman of Mansfield and Lynne Schwaner of Bellville; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Shirley (Robert) Stehling of North Carolina, Donna Takos of Shelby and Alice Cramer of New Washington; sister-in-law, Diane Lewis of Monroeville and brother-in-law, Dick Takos of Shelby.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, D. Roy Dean; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Eleanor & Mike Takos; brother, Fredrick Marshall; grandson, Craig Vipperman and three brother-in-laws, Wayne Lewis, Kenneth Takos and Earl Cramer.

Funeral service will be held at noon, Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory. Rev. J.R. Harvey will officiate with interment held in Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery in Shelby. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon.

In lieu of flowers memorial expressions may be made to the First United Methodist Church at 18 S. Gamble St, Shelby, OH 44875.
